Daun Thompson has spent years acting in both film and theatre which has been paramount in launching her onto the comedy stage (incidentally, without a helmet, resulting in a nasty concussion). Being a funny girl is a full time job. A job that she hopes that one day will come with dental benefits and a 401K. Unlike her work, she is biodegradable, yet flame retardant. And gentle to the touch. Her goal in life??? For strangers to approach her and ask "Didn't you used to be somebody?"
In the late 1980's she cut her teeth at the Velveeta Room on 6th Street in Austin, Texas ... the original room with the stripper pole. From there, she moved to northern California and worked with many comedy icons, like Mitch Hedberg, Marc Maron, Colin Quinn, Vic Dunlop, Huck Flyn, Michael Mancini, Doug Ferrari, Shang and Brian Posehn.
Daun has been a licensed driver safety instructor and trainer with Comedy Defensive Driving for over 9 years. Her knowledge of driving safety laws keeps her readers informed and engaged with her blog adventures. She still continues to do stand-up comedy, sometimes in a reclining position...just to be different.
Whenever you see an emergency vehicle on the side of the road with its lights flashing, you must move over and put an empty lane between you and them for their safety. If you can’t move over or perhaps you’re traveling on a two lane road, you must slow down 20 miles under the posted…
I always thought of a pedestrian as a carless (and possibly homeless) person. One part of me feeling sorry for them (and their aching feet), while the other part of me feeling envious of them. Envious of the money they save by NOT paying for gasoline, NOT making a car payment, NOT paying for insurance…
My Grandfather was a truck driver. Casey Graham was ornery, Irish-American and a big drinker. Which wouldn’t go over well the current commercial driver license requirements . Back in those days, in wasn’t uncommon to see a truck driver traveling two days with no sleep. Or, in my Grandfather Casey’s case, with a hangover to…
If I got pulled over by the police (and I hope I didn’t just jinx myself), the last thing I would do would be to tell them I teach defensive driving and get a 45 minute lecture. Being a traffic officer is not a job I would wish for. Pulling people over all day long…
I was listening to a talk radio station in my car. Apparently, a study has been conducted regarding animals that mate for life. I was a bit surprised that this particular study is being funded, while a much more important study, why people don’t mate for life, is still left unsolved. Bitter… party of one.…
We have two cars in our household now. And there is a lot to be said for that good old roadside assistance we have through our auto insurance policy. In Texas, there is also an 800 number printed on the back of our Texas Drivers License specifically for roadside assistance and emergencies, and it’s free.…
I can remember when the turn signal, the horn, the brake lights and even the hazard lights were all communication tools. Now, using them seems to either make people angry or encourages them to drive more aggressively toward you. Even the sunroof is no longer only used to enjoy the pleasant weather. It is now used…
Have you lived your entire life, never doing a darned thing for anyone? Well, shame on you and here’s your chance to make it up to everyone. In the end, you could do so by gifting them with life. By donating your organs and tissue you can give up to 8 people a fresh lease…
You know, the best things in life are free. And that’s why I shoplift. During National Child Passenger Safety Week, which runs September 16-22, there will be free (you heard it) safety seat check-ups. These check ups will be offered during the last day of the event for the Save Me With A Seat program…
There are many “universal” signs. For example, the peace sign is known world-wide. And, least we forget the infamous finger (which is one half of the peace sign), the shape of a stop sign (octagon), the colors red (stop), yellow (yield/caution) and green (go/proceed). While safety is knowledge, knowledge is power and that knowledge may…
